If You Don’t Know About the Artist Yet……!!!

Jambo, I am Samantha Taylor, Founder of Elephant Art Shop – a diverse portfolio of wildlife, community and environmental conservation watercolor paintings, greetings cards and T-shirts inspired by my impressionable childhood in Kenya, East Africa. My mission is to advocate urgency for addressing environmental and humanitarian challenges through creative expression and empowerment. The elephant is a mascot signifying strength and optimism, protecting their tusks, survival for the future and overcoming climate change. There are many lessons we can learn from the lucky elephant, loyalty to its family, and working together to protect and restore resilient communities for our future generations.
Join Elephant Art Shop and Hudson Valley's best artists and makers. Artist, Samantha Taylor, will be featuring watercolor paintings, prints and cards in celebration of Indigenous People's Day on Monday, October 9. Indigenous Peoples' Day is a holiday that celebrates and honors indigenous American peoples and commemorates their histories and cultures. There are 476 million indigenous peoples in the world living across 90 countries. They make up less than 5 per cent of the world's population, but account for 15 per cent of the poorest. They speak a majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages and represent 5,000 different cultures. Indigenous Peoples are practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment. They have social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, indigenous peoples from around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples. Key facts: -Globally, 47% of all indigenous peoples in employment have no education, compared to 17% of their non-indigenous counterparts. This gap is even wider for women. -Indigenous Peoples are nearly three times as likely to be living in extreme poverty compared to their non-indigenous counterparts. Indigenous peoples play an essential role addressing and mitigating climate change as they have knowledge and practices for the sustainable management of natural resources which is critical for protecting our planet for future generations. We look forward to seeing you at WAAM.

Samantha Taylor, Founder of Elephant Art Shop and Reputation Dynamics is excited to collaborate with Newberry Artisan Market to be hosting its inaugural Sustainable Makers Market event on Labor Day weekend - Friday, September 1 - Sunday, September 3. This event will showcase and celebrate environmentally conscious artists and artisans from the Hudson Valley.
Earth’s climate is going through unprecedented changes in the history of modern civilization as a result of human behaviors. These include increasing greenhouse gas emissions, higher temperature and precipitation extremes, flooding and wildfires. This is influencing the migration patterns of humans, marine and wildlife species to find better places to live and survive in and outside of cities. By 2050 there will be 9.7 billion people on the planet, half of them will be in water-stressed regions, requiring 50 percent more energy.
With the growing threats of climate change, disruptive weather patterns, water shortages, nature will dictate our ultimate destiny. This requires a dramatic shift in how we evaluate, appreciate and find solutions for the co-dependent connections between nature, humans, wildlife and resilient communities.
The Hudson Valley is home to a growing community of artists, artisans and small business owners who are committed to addressing climate change and creating communities where people and nature thrive. We welcome ideas for workshops and side events in addition to environmentally conscious products.

Let's all work together!

Elephant Art reflects my memories of childhood growing up in Kenya, East Africa, taking a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. As a symbol of wisdom, the elephant is said to attain old age and the species is highly revered for its strength and emotional intelligence. There are several lessons we can learn from the lucky elephant, loyalty to its family and role in protecting community during these troubling times in our global economy. The shop features a portfolio of animals (birds, owls, bears, lions, elephants, tigers and dogs) and reflections of nature to include trees – the lungs of our earth. There is something for everyone ranging from a greetings card, to a print, Elephant T-Shirts and commissioned pieces.
The holidays are just around the corner and never too early to plan. You are welcome to visit me for tea at Elephant Cottage, browse shop items and paintings. Take a selfie with my elephant in the garden. 😊
We look forward to seeing you and please share with animal lovers and tree huggers.
With gratitude, Sam Taylor
